Half Frame Slides

The slide below is an example of what the half frame slide looks like. We will scan these slides to be as large an image as a regular 35mm slide.

The "Half frame" name refers to the fact that these cameras produce an image size that is half the size of the typical 24mm X 36 mm frame for 35mm. A 36 exposure 35mm film will allow you to take 72 frames on one of these cameras. The finished film size is 24mm high by 18mm wide.

The half frame camera was built so that a person could have a very compact camera but using commonly available film. The most advanced half-frame camera that was designed as such from the start is the Yashica Samurai single lens reflex. The pictures have a portrait orientation as opposed to the landscape orientation of a 35mm

The cameras were popular in the 1960s.
