We Sent a Test Order to Legacy Box
To fairly compare scanning services, we sent the same slides to Legacy Box, Costco, and Walgreen's to see how their results compared. Legacy Box is probably our biggest competitor right now. We can't compete with their millions of dollars in advertising, but we CAN compete—and EXCEL—with our results. The differences are striking, to say the least.
The Only Fair Test: Really, the only fair way to test these types of services is to send them the same slides and see how their results compare.
About Those "Recommendations": We have no idea how Legacy Box got so many seemingly high-value recommendations from publications like "Good Housekeeping." Maybe they buy ads in the magazine, or maybe whoever hands out the glowing reviews doesn't do any real research beyond asking Legacy Box how glowing the review should be. It's hard to believe anyone would give them a good recommendation after seeing our scanning test results with the exact same slides.

While we support 19 different format types, including almost all consumer formats of videotapes, photos, film reels and audio, unfortunately one or more of the items you sent in are not on that supported list." "However, we'd be happy to offer a credit for this item(s) toward a future order!" MY COMMENT: There was no mention on the order form that they could not scan certain slides. The 127 type slides were pretty common back in the day. They had the slides for so many months and could have notified me but they did not. They could have given me a refund for the slides that they were not able to scan but, they did not. They are willing to give me a "credit" for a future order of which I will have to start the process all over again and pay for a minimum order of 25 slides and the shipping costs and have to wait almost 3 months to get them back. This could have been handled much better but this way it benefits Legacy Box and not the customer. |

"Your package is arriving today." From SOUTHTREE Scheduled Delivery: Saturday 04/02/2022, 2:15 PM - 5:15 PM Who is SouthTree? Southtree is one of the names that "Legacy Box" had before it rebranded itself as Legacy Box supposedly "founded by two brothers." I suspect a fairy tale for advertising purposes here. You should have seen all their "angry customers" on the BBB page for Southtree. Not there anymore. BBB deletes reviews after two years, good or bad. They also have a branch or version or iteration of the same business called "Kodak Digitizing." You can look up these other websites at southtree.com and kodakdigitizing.com. You will have to copy and paste their URL. I'm not giving them a link. |
The Bottom Line
110 days to scan 50 slides. That's over 15 weeks. And even after nearly 4 months, they couldn't scan some of the slides (127 format slides that were common in their day) without notifying us in advance or offering a proper refund.
Compare this to our service: We typically scan orders within 2-3 weeks, professionally edit every single scan in Photoshop, and handle ALL slide formats including 127 slides. If we encounter any issues, we contact you immediately—not after months of waiting.
Quality comparison: As you can see in the images and video above, there's simply no comparison in quality. We can't compete with their advertising budget, but we excel where it actually matters—in the results you receive.
