Every Film & Slide Format We Scan

We scan far more than 35mm slides. Over 20+ years we have developed expertise in virtually every film and slide format produced since the 1870s. If you have slides, film, or photos gathering dust and you're not sure if we can scan them — the answer is almost certainly yes. Here is a complete guide to every format we handle.

35mm Slides (Most Common)

The standard 35mm slide in a 2"×2" cardboard or plastic mount is what most people think of when they say "slides." Kodachrome, Ektachrome, Fujichrome — we scan them all at 4,000 ppi with Photoshop color correction included on every scan. This includes 35mm slides in glass mounts, which require special handling to avoid breakage.

Slide & Film Formats Beyond 35mm

110 Slides

110 slides came from 110 pocket cameras — small, easy-to-carry cameras that were enormously popular in the 1970s and 1980s. The slides are small rectangular films in 2"×2" mounts, similar in size to 35mm but with a smaller actual film area. Because the film area is smaller, scanning quality matters even more. We scan 110 slides at the same 4,000 ppi as our 35mm work.

126 Slides (Kodak Instamatic)

126 slides were produced by Kodak Instamatic cameras from the mid-1960s through the 1980s. The film is nearly square — about 26mm×26mm — in a 2"×2" plastic mount. Many families have entire boxes of 126 slides from this era that have never been converted to digital. We scan all 126 format slides with full Photoshop color correction.

127 Super Slides

127 Super Slides are larger than standard 35mm slides — the actual film area fills nearly the entire 2"×2" mount, giving them exceptional image quality when scanned. They were popular in the late 1950s and 1960s. Because of their larger film area, 127 slides often produce some of the most beautiful scan results of any slide format.

Half-Frame Slides

Half-frame cameras shot two images per standard 35mm frame, producing slides that are roughly half the size of a normal 35mm slide. They were popular in the 1960s as a way to get more shots per roll of film. Half-frame slides require extra care to orient and scan correctly.

120 / Medium Format Film & Slides

120 format medium format film produces large negatives and slides — 6×4.5cm, 6×6cm, 6×7cm, or larger depending on the camera. This format was used by professional and serious amateur photographers and produces extraordinary detail when scanned at high resolution. Medium format scans are among our most requested specialty services.

3D Stereo Slides

3D stereo slides are pairs of images — one for each eye — mounted side by side in a standard slide mount. When viewed through a stereo viewer or projector, they produce a striking three-dimensional effect. We scan one side of each stereo pair unless you specify otherwise. Many customers discover their grandparents had entire collections of 3D stereo slides they never knew existed.

Specialty & Rare Media

View-Master Reels

View-Master reels contain 7 stereo image pairs — 14 tiny circular slides arranged around a cardboard disc. Both personal View-Master reels (family memories captured in 3D) and commercial reels can be scanned. View-Master reels require a specialized scanning process — we cannot simply flatten them like standard slides. We have the equipment and experience to do this correctly.

Magic Lantern Glass Slides

Magic Lantern slides are hand-painted or photographically produced glass slides used in projection shows from roughly the 1870s through the 1930s. They are among the oldest photographic media in existence and are extremely fragile. We handle Magic Lantern slides with extraordinary care, wearing cotton gloves and scanning each one individually. Many of these slides are irreplaceable historical documents and family heirlooms.

Kodak Disc Negatives

Kodak Disc cameras produced circular plastic discs containing 15 tiny negative frames arranged around the edge. They were sold from 1982 to 1988 and are notoriously difficult to scan because of the very small negative size and curved film plane. We have specialized equipment for disc negative scanning and have processed thousands of disc negatives over the years.

Carnival Viewer / Keychain Photo Telescopes

Carnival viewers are small plastic souvenir telescopes or keychain viewers that contain a tiny photographic slide inside — usually a family portrait or vacation photo taken at a fair, amusement park, or tourist attraction. The slide inside is very small but can be extracted and scanned. If you have one of these with a photo of your family from decades past, we can recover that image.

Paper Photos & Prints

Paper Photographs

Standard printed photographs — 3×5, 4×6, 5×7, 8×10 and other sizes — can all be scanned. We scan paper photos on a flatbed scanner at high resolution with Photoshop color correction. Faded, yellowed, or damaged prints often respond remarkably well to digital restoration.

Polaroid Instant Photographs

Polaroid instant photographs are delicate — the surface is easily scratched and the emulsion can be damaged by pressure or humidity. We handle Polaroids carefully during scanning and never apply pressure to the surface. Both the classic square Polaroid format and the later Polaroid 600 format can be scanned.

Not Sure What Format You Have?

If you have slides or film and you're not sure what format they are, contact us before ordering. We've been identifying unusual and obscure slide formats since 2002 and can usually identify a format from a photo or description. We'd rather answer your question upfront than have you ship something we can't process.
